This unusual and attractive wood is found in Central and Latin America primarily in Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, and known as Brazilian tulipwood, Pau rosa, Pinkwood, Pau de fuso, and Jacaranda rosa. Tulipwood is hard and dense with elegant pink-yellow heartwood with a pronounced stripe of pink to deep red. The wood is so hard that it dulls the cutting edges of cutting tools. Because of the striking grain and luster, the wood is a favorite with craftsmen who use it for decorative pieces.
