This pen was created with bloodwood and ebony in a Native American border design that you won't find anywhere else. It is part of my Native American Blanket series.
Border patterns are used by Native American weavers and silversmiths to establish boundaries and as designs in their own right. The Hopi silversmiths have made great use of these foreground/background patterns in their jewelry. The recurring spirals represent cycles of life and eternal renewal.
